Asteroid began with Liv Perrotto—a young creator who imagined a brave Shiba in a spacesuit and gave children a character that could carry their dreams into space.

Liv imagined
a Shiba among the stars.
Olivia “Liv” Perrotto was a young space enthusiast and artist whose experience with pediatric cancer connected her with the Inspiration4 and Polaris communities. Through that connection, she joined the Polaris Dawn ground-support story and was invited to design the mission's zero-gravity indicator.
Liv loved Shiba Inus and drew inspiration from Floki, Elon Musk's Shiba. Her idea became Asteroid: a small orange Shiba wearing a spacesuit, created to float inside Crew Dragon when the spacecraft reached microgravity.
Asteroid was more than a mission mascot to Liv. She wanted the character to help other children—especially children facing illness—see space as a place where their own dreams could belong. Replica plush sales associated with the mission benefited St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at her request.
